Rugby League Cares has reaffirmed the charity’s commitment to supporting the wellbeing of players past and present by continuing the life-changing support available through its partnership with Dementia UK.
Monthly Brain Health Clinics where professional players, and their partners or carers, can access the expertise of a Dementia UK Admiral Nurse will again be held throughout 2026.
This service has provided an important lifeline to players suffering from poor memory, dementia, Alzheimer’s disease and associated conditions over the last 18 months, during which time more than 40 players and their families have been supported.
The clinics usually take place on the first Wednesday of the month at venues in Leeds, Wigan, St Helens or West Cumbria, as well as online or by telephone, and involve appointments with Admiral Nurse Joe Costello lasting between 45 minutes and an hour.
Joe has been able to provide expert assistance and brain health advice on both pre- and post-diagnosis, behaviour change, personal support planning and care options, as well as advice on poor brain health prevention.
The next Brain Health Clinic takes place on Wednesday January 14 and all appointments haver already been booked: there are currently appointments available at the February clinic, which will be held on Wednesday February 4 at the Weetwood Hall Estate in Leeds, 10 minutes from Headingley stadium.
The March clinic takes place on Wednesday March 4 in Cumbria at the Melbreak Hotel on the outskirts of Workington.
Appointments are free and totally confidential – to book please click here.
The clinics are made possible through the RL Cares Brain Health Fund: please show your support by making a donation via the fund’s Justgiving page here.
