Working in partnership to support NHS workers' wellbeing across seven trusts
In 2021 Rugby League Cares entered a ground-breaking partnership with three NHS trusts in the Northwest aiming to bolster the mental and physical wellbeing of frontline NHS healthcare workers. Due to early and ongoing success the programme is now delivered through 7 NHS Trust with the potential for further growth.
A mental health programme with a difference
Staff receive support from clinically trained former rugby league professionals to enhance their mental fitness and resilience.
The programme strives to maintain the productivity, health, and happiness of NHS staff amid unprecedented pressures caused by the lasting impact of Covid-19.

Edge Hill University
Since 2017, Edge Hill University has been supporting Rugby League Cares to measure and monitor our impact across Northern towns and communities.
This close working partnership enables leading professors and academics (led by Professor Andy Smith) to support Rugby League Cares to:
Shape the design, delivery and evaluation of programmes.
Work with local, national and international partners.
Deliver knowledge exchange activities to share best practice and grow what works.

RL Cares for the NHS has positively influenced individual wellbeing, workplace culture and is perceived as a valuable support system for NHS staff.
Programme was consistently effective across demographic groups.
The usefulness of the programme was rated 4 out of 5 or higher by 91.9% of all participants
